This week a number of our secondary classes took part in a variety of different sessions as part of their Pastoral Care Program.
Our Year 10 students heard from guest presenter Neesha Woodward Alcohol and Drug Counsellor from Echuca Regional Health. As this terms focus is ‘Take Care Out There’, Neesha spoke with students about the risks associated with alcohol and other drug-use and the services offered by ERH for individuals, families and friends whose lives may be impacted by alcohol and other drug use. Of particular interest is that 24 hour/7 day professional drug & alcohol confidential counselling and support is available at: www.counsellingonline.org.au.
Our Year 11 students took part in a d-stress session which included relaxation techniques taken by Mrs Jo Webb, Cardio Boxing taken by Shannon Fink from FITmob Central Health & Fitness Echuca and Easy Bike Riding with Mr Jarrod Monaghan and Mr Greg Cadd.
Our Year 12 students heard from guest presenter John Dingle on Wednesday 11 May as part of their Pastoral Care Program. The Looking After Your Mates presentation focuses on keeping young drivers and their mates safe on the road where alcohol and drugs are concerned. It revolves around peer support. The program uses video clips, information about alcohol and drugs and the use of statistics to drive home a message of responsibility to young drivers. Activities based around alcohol servings and standard drinks illustrate how easy it is to reach a BAC of 0.05 and how long alcohol is retained in the body. The program demonstrates the impact that tragic circumstances can have when it involves road trauma. It is about changing attitudes whilst driving and being with your mates.
Talk to a Year 10, 11 or 12 student about what they took away from the Pastoral Care Sessions this week.
