Primary School

At Moama Anglican Grammar, our Primary School provides a calm, structured and academically challenging learning environment where every child is known, valued and encouraged to thrive. We are committed to nurturing confident, resilient and self-aware learners through a rich and diverse educational program that caters to individual strengths, interests and needs.

Our team of dedicated and passionate educators design engaging, high-quality learning experiences that promote deep understanding and encourage students to make meaningful connections with the world around them. Supported by modern, state-of-the-art facilities, access to one-to-one technology, and a differentiated curriculum, students are empowered to explore their potential and achieve personal excellence.

Beyond the classroom, our extensive co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities provide students with experiences that foster creativity, leadership, wellbeing and lifelong learning.

Network of Care

At the heart of our Primary School is a strong commitment to student wellbeing. Our Network of Care ensures that every student is known, noticed and supported throughout their educational journey, creating a strong sense of belonging and connection to school.

Through a student-centred approach, we provide access to a highly qualified team of wellbeing professionals who work collaboratively with students, families and teachers to support both academic growth and personal wellbeing. By developing meaningful relationships and understanding each child’s individual needs, we help students feel valued, encouraged and empowered to achieve their personal best.

Our comprehensive wellbeing framework includes:

  • Weekly Pastoral Care lessons
  • A dedicated School Chaplain
  • Qualified Social Workers
  • Education Support Staff providing additional student support
  • Evidence-based wellbeing programs from Kindergarten to Year 6
  • The Get Happier School initiative

These programs develop students’ social and emotional skills, helping them build resilience, maintain positive relationships and confidently navigate challenges. They also support the prevention of bullying behaviours and promote a culture of respect, kindness and inclusion across our school community.

Academic Excellence

Our academic program is designed to build strong foundations in literacy and numeracy while inspiring curiosity, creativity and a love of learning.

Following the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) curriculum, students engage in a broad range of learning experiences across all key learning areas. In addition to English and Mathematics, students participate in:

  • Science and Technology
  • History and Geography
  • Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE)
  • Sport
  • Pastoral Care
  • Religious and Values Education
  • Music Performance
  • Visual Arts
  • Information and Digital Technologies
  • Italian
  • Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program

Our approach to teaching and learning in the Primary school is guided by contemporary research from cognitive science and the Science of Learning, helping students build, retain and apply knowledge effectively.  Simply put, this means we draw on research about how the brain learns most effectively to shape classroom practice. Teachers use strategies that are proven to improve learning, memory, understanding and long term knowledge retention, ensuring students are supported to achieve their personal best and develop confidence as capable learners.

Specialist teachers deliver programs across a range of key learning areas, enriching the educational experience through expert instruction and diverse learning opportunities. Students benefit from access to outstanding facilities that support academic, creative and physical development, including the Multi-Purpose Stadium, Resource Centre, extensive sporting grounds, and purpose-built specialist spaces for Visual Arts, Music Performance, Food Technology and Science.

Leadership Opportunities

Leadership development begins early at Moama Anglican Grammar. Through our Pastoral Care program, all students are encouraged to demonstrate responsibility, initiative, empathy and service to others.

As students progress through the Primary years, they are provided with purposeful opportunities to further develop these important qualities. Students in Years 5 and 6 participate in a buddy program, building meaningful relationships with Kindergarten and Year 1 students through regular mentoring and support.

Year 6 students also attend an intensive Leadership Day at Gunbower Estate and lead the school’s Peer Support Program throughout the year. This experience develops confidence, communication skills and a commitment to serving others.

Formal leadership opportunities are available for selected students through roles such as:

  • School Leaders
  • House Captains
  • Music Captains
  • Co-curricular Captains

These positions allow students to contribute positively to school life while developing valuable leadership skills that will support them beyond their primary years.

Elective Sports Program

Our Elective Sports Program provides students in Years 4 to 6 with the opportunity to pursue their sporting interests while developing skills, confidence and teamwork.

Students participate in a dedicated 100-minute elective sports session each week, selecting from a variety of sporting and recreational activities. Programs are designed to cater for all experience levels, enabling students to challenge themselves, experience success and work towards personal goals.

The program aims to:

  • Develop individual sporting skills and fitness
  • Build teamwork and sportsmanship
  • Promote participation and enjoyment
  • Encourage personal growth and achievement
  • Prepare students for community and inter-school sporting competitions

Through these experiences, students are supported to develop healthy lifestyles and a lifelong appreciation for physical activity.

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program

Students in Years 3 and 4 participate in the highly regarded Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program, an engaging hands-on learning experience that connects students with food, sustainability and healthy living.

As a Kitchen Garden School, students regularly participate in both kitchen and garden classes as part of their everyday learning. Working in the dedicated vegetable gardens and specialised food technology room, students develop practical skills while strengthening connections across many areas of the curriculum.

Through the program, students learn how to:

  • Grow seasonal fruits and vegetables
  • Prepare and cook healthy meals
  • Understand sustainable food production
  • Work collaboratively with others
  • Develop confidence and independence

These rich learning experiences provide skills for life while fostering an appreciation for fresh food, healthy choices and the enjoyment that comes from growing and sharing food within a community.

At Moama Anglican Grammar Primary School, every child is encouraged to flourish academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. Through exceptional teaching, outstanding wellbeing support and a broad range of opportunities, we provide an environment where students feel connected, challenged and inspired to become confident learners and compassionate citizens.
